IVORY SCRIMSHAW BLANKS AND CABOCHONS
READY TO SCRIMSHAW
A scrimshaw "blank" is flat (F) and a cabochon has a slight domed surface (D). The domed "cabs" (as we call them) look exceptionally fine in a setting and are well worth the extra money; we highly recommend them. Both the cabs and blanks are approximately 1/8" thick, polished to a glassy finish and ready for scrimshaw. All of these are available in creamy vintage crack free African elephant ivory. Mammoth and light color fossil walrus ivory up to 40mm x 30mm are the same price, larger sizes please inquire for price and availability. Walrus ivory has a core of secondary dentine as seen in several of the cabs below--it looks like petrified tapioca. If you require dark fossil ivories please inquire, we have gem grade that is too dark/colorful for scrimshaw but spectacular for jewelry as is. We do custom cabochon cutting, so if you need a particular size/shape not seen, please inquire.
