1911 Walrus Ivory Grips
Walrus ivory comes from Alaska, we use vintage (taken before 1972) white walrus ivory from tusks that we buy exclusively in the lower 48 states from previous owners or we buy ancient walrus ivory that is excavated in old village sites exclusively by Yupik Eskimo of St. Lawrence Island. The ancient walrus ivory is hand dug during the short summer thaw and is one of the few ways of making money for these people that subsist by hunting and fishing. Ancient ivory has wonderful earth tone colors from centuries of burial. Walrus ivory is unique, it has a core that resembles ivory burl and is very beautiful when exposed, it is an American ivory (unlike elephant). Our supply of this material is very limited, both are rare.
To comply with state law we no longer ship any ivory to New Jersey addresses.
