Walrus Baculum Oosik Penile Bone.  Male walrus have a bone called a baculum (oosik is the native word) inside their penis as do some other mammals, the walrus has the largest. As the Ode to An Oosik poem goes  "Tho the weather is frigid the walrus is rigid, pray why is not man so endowed".  This is a nice 21 1/2" long specimen, polished and beautiful.  This oosik was excavated from the ancient Yupik Eskimo village Kukuluk (coo coo' look) on St. Lawrence Island in the Bering Sea.  Years of burial gives gives it  this rich dark brown color. Overall condition is very good, has some damage near the tip end and at the base as shown.  Could be used for knife handles but it's a nice display oosik.
