Fossil Walrus Scrimshawed Yupik Eskimo Pictograph Artifact. Scrimshawed (engraved) excavated ivory has eskimo style pictograph figures depicting several hunting scenes done on a genuine old eskimo artifact piece tan colored ivory, 13/4"" long . Back of piece has artifact markings.Strung on 25" black leather cord. 

This fascinating Eskimo art predating the influences of the Yankee whalers arrival in the Arctic in the mid 1800's. Rich depictions of hunting, fishing, shamanistic ceremonies and village scenes. Although primitive in form this fascinating early stick figure artwork is extremely powerful and has a universal appeal. This pictograph artwork has been hand engraved in the old style on a genuine 500-3000 year old walrus ivory Eskimo Artifact excavated on St Lawrence Island.
