WALRUS TUSK TIP END pre 1972 This is a beautiful solid large tusk tip end 12" long x 1 5/8" x 2 5/8" in diameter across the big end, it weighs 2 pounds 1 ounce. It appears to be crack free and could be slabbed for grips or knife handles or cross cut for hooks, jewelry and carvings, the chip on the tip is old and worn smooth. The "core" shown in the end view is called secondary dentine and is like ivory burl, unique to walrus it is not porous. This is pre 1972 walrus ivory so it is legal for non natives to own, work with and resell as it predates the Marine Mammal Act and is exempt from those regulations (check to see if your state has regulations. Over the years we have accumulated a small amount of this material from individuals in the lower 48 states that inherited it and wanted to sell it. We have now decided to sell off this old stock rather than turn it into finished products. When this limited stock is gone there will be no more, this ivory is well over 53 years old. Cracks in ivory can be filled and hidden very nicely with White Super Glue made by Star Bond, order on line, they also make a Light Brown, Dark Brown and Black. The White mixed with a tiny bit of Light Brown will make nice old ivory shades. Dark dirty cracks can be filled with the tinted super glues.
