Vintage Walrus Skull/Mask with Tusks WM-11

Walrus Skull/Mask with Tusks (aka the nose plate or the front part of the skull without the elongated cranium).  This beautifully scrimshawed/hand engraved vintage specimen has 6 wildlife portraits caribou, wolf, musk ox on one tusk, polar bear, walrus and fox on the other.  This was acquired in Alaska in the late 1970's and has 21" long tusks, is 28” overall top to tips and has all 8 palate teeth.  Nice shiny very long and gracefully curved tusks, it's ready to hang.  This is an exceptional art and natural history speciman with free shipping and insurance.

All the walrus masks we sell are from the 1900’s and are being reintroduced into the market, they are decades old, always purchased in the lower 48 from previous owners. We do not buy any of these in Alaska where they are still being hunted for food. Some of ours are pre 1972 and others have native Alaskan scrimshaw, both are legal to buy and sell. No one is hunting walrus to supply us with these; they are all “recycled”.
